Denver Broncos Training Camp Day 1 Morning Practice
By Jeremy Glasoe | July 31, 2009

What a beautiful day! The Denver Broncos opened up training camp today with sunny sky’s, Pad’s on, and a bunch of spirit in the air. There is no doubt who is in charge out on the practice fields, and that’s Josh McDaniels. McD was all over the field, clearly with his hand in everything. I was very impressed with the atmosphere the coach has brought to the team.
Sideline Report:
- Denver Broncos new starting QB Kyle Orton was very accurate and it looks like he has buried his head in the playbook.
- Chris Simms looked rusty and inaccurate at times.
- Brandon Marshall looks as if he is heeling nicely from off-season hip surgery. BMarsh had a few spectacular catches throughout the day, he gave one kid waking down the sideline a high five after hauling in a pass from Orton.
- Overall the Receiving core was probably the most impressive of the day. Names that stood out to me: Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, Kenny McKinley, Brandon Lloyd, and Jabar Gaffney
- Ryan Torain, although wearing a brace, appeared to be coming back from surgery very nicely. Looked good!
- Lamont Jordan is one thick dude! He was popping some pads! Looks like a goal line killer.
- Eddie Royal and Rookie Alphonso Smith shared punt return duties.
- Observed a Wildcat formation once, sending Orton out wide. Defense stuffed it!
- There was a nice play by the Special Teams — I believe it was Josh Bell that blocked the field goal.
- Both Rookie 1st Round selections, Knowshon Moreno and Robert Ayers were absent, and will be until they sign their contracts.
- In all, it was a crisp practice with the offense getting the better of the defense.
