Brandon Marshall Earning a Significant Raise

By Jeremy Glasoe | October 14, 2009

Marshall TD vs. Patriots

Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall, could be playing his way into that new contract that he so desperately wants, according to Pat Bowlen.

“Brandon understands that he’s got a year left on his present deal, but if he keeps playing the way he is, he’s going to get a very significant raise — a much better contract,” Bowlen said Tuesday at the NFL Fall League Meeting. “That’s the way it goes, and Brandon has accepted that.”

Over the last few weeks, Brandon has really bought into what the team is doing. I have seen a transformation in his mentality, effort, demeanor, and his understanding of the new offense with a willingness to learn.

Bmarsh’s production over the last 3 weeks has benefited from the change in attitude.

Brandon Marshall Receptions Yards Touchdowns
Cincinnati Bengals 4 27 0
Cleveland Browns 3 34 0
Oakland Raiders 5 67 1
Dallas Cowboys 4 91 1
New England Patriots 8 64 2

We are going to see Eddie Royal’s production go up because of Brandon’s play. Sunday against the Patriots, Royal had 10 receptions for 90 yards. Defenses have to key in on Marsh now, combine that with Royal figuring out the offense, and the Broncos have a deadly set of receivers. Royal is just one example of Marshall’s rise from the flames, the entire team will reap the rewards.

Brandon Marshall has been one of my favorite Broncos, on these most recent teams, but I must admit, I was very upset with the way he handled this off-season. I felt betrayed, even though it has nothing to do with me. As a fan, I loved the passion and fun Brandon brought to the field, the thought of losing a player this enjoyable to watch because he didn’t want to be in Denver, hurt!

I was so hurt, I wanted Marshall traded, much in the same way Jay Cutler was sent packing. I didn’t think there was any Hope of changing his attitude and perception of the team. Brandon Marshall you have proved me wrong and I am so happy you did! The Denver Broncos are better because BMarsh is a part of The Team.

Keep doing what your doing Marshall and Bowlen will provide the deserved contract.

Bowlen also had a few good words for his Head Coach Josh McDaniels

“Things couldn’t be any better.”

“We took some early criticism hiring a young coach — he was 32 years old at the time — and were questioned about what he was going to be able to do. He’s been terrific. It’s been extremely important as we got into the process of him being a head coach, that the way he’s handled particular situations was well beyond his years. He’s proven he is ready.”

Couldn’t agree more, Coach has been excellent. McD is even considered a front runner for Coach of the Year. How do you like them apples? I call them Granny Smith, so dang good!

Thanks to Steve Wyche of NFL.com for the Bowlen quotes.
