Denver Broncos Practice Outdoors No Matter What the Weather
It is a cold, drizzly, wet, and at times a snowy day here in Colorado. This is football weather, right? Head Coach Josh McDaniels thinks so, as well. The Denver Broncos will practice outdoors no matter what the weather is doing, because that’s what you do on game day so why change things. This is of course different than the way Mike Shanahan did things, which is no surprise because everything McD has done since the beginning has been a switch from the old regime.
“If we play in it, I hope we practice it,” McDaniels said. “If it’s wet, damp, raining, snowing, whatever, we’re going to be outside.”
“We’ve got to get ready to play in it,” McDaniels said. “You can’t tell guys we’re going to practice inside in a bubble all week and then when we go out play in the snow on Sunday make sure you do all the things you’re supposed to do when the weather is bad: stay on your feet, field the ball, throw it in the wet and all that. You’ve got to practice that.”
“I don’t think it’s going to deteriorate practice just because we’re throwing in the rain today,” McDaniels said.
The changes have all been good, as the organization was in need of a Shake Up. There was an addition of stability that came during the tumultuous earthquake which was McD landing in Broncos Country, turned out he was the perfect ingredient for a team struggling to find an identity, especially on defense! Turns out Pat Bowlen isn’t as crazy as some would have led you to believe.

Practicing outdoors is just another example of the tough hard-nosed, have it my way or the highway Coach we have!
