Rockies looking to respond in Game 2

By Nick Abel | October 7, 2009

NLDS Rockies Phillies Baseball

Don’t worry Rockie fans.  It’s just one game.  Today will be an eye opener for the younger guys like Dex and CarGo.  Getting the feel for a post-season game has to be exhausting.  The Rockies however do have lots of experience in the clubhouse that will help this team past the Phillies.  Players like Todd Helton, Tulo, Giambi.  They have been there and know what it takes to win.

The Rockies couldn’t seem to hit when they needed to and when they did; there was no one there to pick them up.  When you fall behind in a game, it is key to chip away at the lead and not try to get it back all at once.  We have to give Cliff Lee some credit, he pitched a near perfect playoff game.  Tomorrow will be much different.  Aaron Cook will be going for the Rockies and Cole Hammels will be up for the Phillies.  Hammels is not the same pitcher as he was last season and the Rockies have beat him this year.

I see the bats heating up starting tomorrow.  Hammels is good, but the offense for the Rockies will not keep going 3 up 3 down.   If Aaron cook can pitch like he did in his last start against the Brewers, the Rockies will cruise to a victory.  Getting to the Philly bullpen will be KEY to winning game 2.  I preached this a lot during the Nuggets playoff run.  All you have to do is take just one on the road and win at home.  You take away their home field; you have them where you want them.  Split on the road; bring it home to what will be a WILD crowd at Coors Field.
