After Lakewood, Colo.’s own Chris Camozzi’s short stint on The Ultimate Fighter Season 11, one thing was certain: Camozzi has a lot of heart and toughness.
He once again showed that when he had the opportunity to return to the UFC organization on the TUF 11 Live Finale. Despite suffering a separated shoulder, Camozzi still pulled out a unanimous decision victory against TUF 11 alumnus James Hammortree.
Camozzi (13-3, 1-0 UFC) was originally caste for the TUF 11 season and earned his way into the house after defeating Victor O’Donnell. However, in just the second episode of the season he was sent home because he had fractured his jaw in the fight and UFC President Dana White was reluctantly forced to send him packing while recognizing Camozzi’s guts to try and keep fighting with the busted jaw.
White gave him the opportunity to return for this past Saturday’s live finale and he made the most of it by controlling Hammortree and landing big blows on the way to a victory despite having separated his shoulder in both the first and third rounds.
“I had a great time in Vegas and Hammortree was tough,” Camozzi said on his website after the win. “It feels great to get the win and have all the hard work pay off. I would have liked to finish the fight but a win is a win,” I dislocated my shoulder in the 1st and the 3rd round and had trouble getting it back into place during the fight. Other than that my body is not too sore. I cant wait to see what is next.”
Camozzi is sure to get another fight in the UFC as it has become custom for White and fellow UFC brass to bring back exciting fighters who find a way to win on the finale.
Until his next fight, expect Camozzi to keep working to improve at Gumm MMA in Lakewood. He is an exciting fighter with a promising future.
