Denver Broncos, Tim Tebow agree to 5-year deal

By John Livingston | July 30, 2010

Let the experiment officially begin.

On Thursday, the Denver Broncos and first-round draft pick Tim Tebow agreed to a five-year contract. The deal is worth $11.25 million over the five year with $8.7 million guaranteed. However, the deal could be worth up to $33 million if Tebow meets incentives based on performance and playing time, which seems very unlikely that he will meet all of them. tim-tebow

But you can never count out Tebow. He was the first college sophomore to win a Heisman Trophy. He finished his college career with an SEC record 2,947 rushing yards with 57 rushing touchdowns, and 9,286 passing yards with 88 passing touchdowns to just 15 interceptions.

His ability to run straight at defenses likely means he will likely see plenty of time in the red zone this season. The Broncos could really use a guy with a nose for the goal line that can push the ball into the end-zone when the offense gets in range.

While Tebow will be third on the Broncos’ depth chart for quarterbacks behind Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn. However, he will likely play more often than any third string quarterback in the league this upcoming season in the Broncos’ “Wild-Horse,” formation. His willingness to work on his throwing motion and the improvements he has already made with that this off-season indicate he is willing to do whatever it takes to lead this team from the quarterback position. regardless, his heart and passion to compete will be a welcome addition to the Broncos locker room. There is no doubt it will be appreciated by head coach Josh McDaniels, who has shown he is doing whatever it takes to build a team that cares more about winning for the team than individual accolades.

Last on the list for the Broncos is first round pick Demaryius Thomas. Rumors have his deal going at five-years, $13.3 million with $9.3 million guaranteed. He has until Sunday, when the team has its first full squad practice, before he is officially considered a hold out. When he signs his deal we will update his story.
