The Asheville Tourists, a Colorado Rockies Class A affiliate, announced Monday morning that Russell Wilson has left the team in order to return to college football.
Wilson, a fourth-round pick of the Rockies in 2010, ends his season at .228/.366/.342 through 61 games with five doubles, four triples, three home runs and 15 stolen bases. However he struck out 82 times in 193 at-bats.
North Carolina State granted Wilson a release in April. And because he graduated in three years, he has one year of eligibility left and can play immediately. Sources told ESPN, Wilson chose Wisconsin over both Auburn and the chance to continue playing baseball for the Tourists.
Rox place him on the restricted list, maintaining his rights.
